The Story Behind My Jewellery Journey: From Dubai to the UK and Beyond
Why did I start making jewellery? Well, it’s a story that starts in Dubai, where my family and I spent 10 incredible years living our best life. We had everything planned out, fully expecting to stay there for many more years. But then, in 2019, the world turned upside down.
When Covid hit, everything changed. Within just a few months, my husband was made redundant, and despite my photography business booming, the pandemic brought everything to a halt. With uncertainty everywhere, we made the toughest decision of our lives: to pack up and return to the UK.
The reality of it hit hard. Just a week after landing, we found ourselves in lockdown with two kids, living with my parents. To add to the whirlwind, I discovered I was pregnant with baby number three! No jobs, constant rain, and more rain. Meanwhile, we watched our friends in the UAE slowly return to normal life, while the UK was still deep in the chaos of Covid restrictions.
Rediscovering Myself Through Jewellery: How Resin Changed Everything
When Covid first hit, the mood around the world was undeniably low. Like many others, I found myself stuck in a rut, lounging around in comfy clothes, feeling disconnected from the person I used to be. It was then that I decided it was time to start dressing up again—put on some jewellery and rediscover who I was.
But there was an immediate problem: my jewellery felt all wrong. It was heavy, uncomfortable, and made me incredibly self-conscious. My ears hurt, and it just didn’t feel like me. So, I decided to start experimenting with materials to create my own jewellery, but no matter what I tried, everything seemed too bulky. Then, I stumbled upon resin—and it was a game-changer.
Resin gave me the perfect blank canvas, and the best part? It was light as a feather! I began creating small, "pick-me-up" gifts for family and friends, and the feedback was overwhelming.
